After the Border Security Force pounded Pakistani positions launching Operation Arjun, India and Pakistan agreed to hold their fire along the South of Chinab along the 197-km stretch of international boundary (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir. This is the only stretch manned by the BSF in the State, while the remaining 740 km comprising the Line of Control (LoC) is manned by regular Army.

"We have agreed to observe ceasefire in the area," BSF Director General K.K. Sharma said. He added that soon after the BSF targeted Pakistani positions with 150mm and 180mm mortar guns, Director General of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) Azhar Naveed Hayat Khan called him on Saturday evening and asked for holding fire.

While a ceasefire along the International boundary has been agreed to, there has been no let-up along the LoC. Pakistani army used mortars, small weapons and automatics to target Indian positions in Shahpur and Balakote areas in Poonch district.
