Senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha's brutal critique of the Narendra Modi government's economic policies was summarily rejected by the senior ministers on Wednesday.

Even as the politics continues over the issue, the Congress lauded Sinha and said that he has spoken the truth.

Here are 10 major updates on this big political story:

1: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was among the first top leaders to reject Sinha's criticism.

2: Talking to reporters, Singh said India is the fastest growing economy in the world and ' no one should forget this fact.'

3: 'In the matter of economy, in the international arena, India's credibility has been established,' Singh said when asked about Sinha's opinion piece in the Indian Express.

4: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal defended the government and said that the Narendra Modi administration won't flinch due to some criticism.

5: He said that ours is the cleanest government ever and the fight against black money would continue.

6: Defending the November 8 decision of demonetization and the landmark tax reform GST, Goyal said, “There is bound to be some uncertainty when some transformative changes are made. It (economy) may take some amount of time to absorb these changes but this will pass. Challenges come but we will stay the course.”

7: In an opinion piece titled, "I need to speak up now", Sinha slammed Arun Jaitley over what he called the "mess the finance minister has made of the economy".

8: "The prime minister claims that he has seen poverty from close quarters. His finance minister is working over-time to make sure that all Indians also see it from equally close quarters," wrote the BJP veteran.

9: Congress capitalised the article to the fullest with hailing Sinha's viewpoint.

10: It is not the first time that Yashwant Sinha ha gone against his own party and government. “The people of India will consign him to the dust, you just have to wait for the next elections," Sinha had said last year in a seminar without naming PM Modi.
