Congress leader and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will start his three-day election campaign in Gujarat's Saurashtra region on Monday and will use a bullock cart after permission for open-jeep roadshow was denied to him.

Gandhi will hit the road for a tour of the Saurashtra region as part of the party's election campaign in Gujarat.

In Hanjrapar village some 25 km from Dwarka, Gandhi will enter in a traditionally decked up bullock-cart after police refused him permission to cover the 135 km stretch from Dwarka to Jamnagar by an open jeep, reported IANS.

From there, Gandhi would now be taking a specially done up luxury bus for him equipped with CCTV cameras.

Rahul will then proceed for Jamnagar town where he will make a night halt. On September 26, he will cover towns such as Dhrol and Tankara by road before reaching Rajkot.

He will interact with traders and industrialists after reaching Rajkot in the afternoon.

The much awaited assembly elections in Gujarat will be held towards the end of 2017 or January, 2018. The dates will be announced officially by the Election Commission few months prior to it.
