A global network of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) has sought urgent the President and Prime Minister's urgent intervention to make provisions in the IIM Bill for reservation in the appointment of faculty and admission to various doctoral programmes in the institute.
The letter says that due to shortcoming in reservation policies of the IIM-Bill, the institutes are not ready for complete autonomy that the bill seeks to provide the institutions with. It is currently pending in the Rajya Sabha after being passed by the Lok Sabha.

The letter addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, states, "Due to these acute shortcomings, we believe that the IIMs are not ready for autonomy and rushing through the pending Bill in its current form by the parliament must be avoided."
The letter also brings attention to the global data obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from top 10 IIMs and states, which shows that there has been "severe under-representation" of the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) groups at the teaching and research level positions.
The Ambedkar International Foundation, Ambedkar Association of North America, International Commission of Dalit Rights are some of the organisations that signed the letter under the aegis of the Global IIM Alumni Network.
