"Indian growth story is incomplete without the involvement and contribution of educated Muslims," said, AS Nakadar, a trustee of American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI). He was speaking at a press conference organised by AFMI at Tagore Hall on Sunday.

AFMI promotes education among Muslim youth by awarding medals to students performing well at the SSC and HSC examinations.

In 19 years, it has awarded almost 1,600 medals.

Nakadar also stressed on the need to nurture the next generation of educated Muslims who can volunteer in spreading awareness among the Muslim community.

He hailed AFMI's efforts in bringing up such youth. Happy with the performance of educated Muslims in India, he said, "Before 19 years, the medal was awarded to a student who scored 78%, the highest at that time. This year, a student who had scored 99.7% bagged the medal."

Sharing his views on AFMI's operations in India, another trustee, Aslam Abdullah, said, "These students had formed alumni associations in India and abroad which helped them motivate other Muslim youth to pursue their dreams." Abdullah wants the government to help them in educating young Muslims.

"We can't do everything; we can only spread awareness, rest must be done by the government" opined Abdullah.
