A CRPF jawan was martyred and a civilian was killed while three CRPF jawans sustained injuries in an attack by terrorists and in Model Town of Sopore area of Baramulla in north Kashmir on Wednesday.

The attack took place at 7.40 am after a CRPF Naka party reached the crossing of Model Town Soper. The personnel were just getting down from vehicles when terrorists hiding in a nearby mosque opened fire on them.

The fire was retaliated by the security forces.

"Terrorists fired from the top of the building and since they were hiding in the mosque, the retaliation was done in a very sensitive way keeping in view sanctity of the mosque. In the attack, we lost one jawan and unfortunately a civilian got also killed and 3 more are injured," ADGP CRPF, Zulfkar Hassan said.

He added that the terrorists have been injured in the attack as there was blood present inside the mosque attic and we have found a lot of ammunition also from the mosque.

Security forces managed to rescue a three-year-old child from the spot whose grandfather was killed in the attack. The rescue was done during the crossfire by a team headed by SHO Soper Azim Iqbal.

"We saw a 2-3-year old boy roaming on the spot our priority was to save the child as firing was going on and we put three bullet vehicles and rescued the boy," Iqbal said.

Bashir Ahmed Khan, 65, who got killed in the attack, had taken his grandson for a long drive from Srinagar to Sopore. There, he was supposed to oversee the progress of construction work at one of his projects but couldn’t reach back home alive.

His grandson had a miraculous escape. The little boy identified as Ayaad could be seen sitting on the chest of his grandfather in one of the pictures that went viral on social media, which shook entire Kashmir and made every eye moist.

In a video, the kid can be seen in a police vehicle, saying "I want to go home, I want to go to my mother". The policemen provided him chocolates and biscuits to pacify him.

J&K police uploaded a picture on its official twitter account showing a policeman holding the little Ayaad in his lap. The tweet reads: “JKP #rescued a three years old boy from getting hit by bullets during #militant  #attack in #Sopore.”

SP Soper Javed Iqbal said "There were many other vehicles also stuck at the spot due to the attack. They left their vehicles behind and ran for cover. This man also tried to save himself and his grandson's life but unfortunately was hit by a bullet."

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar also debunked fake information being spread and said that "the civilian was killed in the firing when the security forces were attacked. Wrong information is being spread."

He further said that Pakistani terrorists of LET Usman are suspected to be behind the attack.
