As coronavirus cases continue to increase at a rapid pace across the country, 54 people were arrested for violating COVID-19 guidelines in Ludhiana.
According to the police, they were part of a pool party organised at a restaurant under Sarabha Nagar police station limits amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Yesterday we got the information about a restaurant owner organizing a pool party in Sarabha Nagar police station limits with 50 to 55 people," Sameer Verma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of police said.
On getting information, a raid was conducted on the site, and arrests were made, he added.
Moreover, the police found bottles of whiskey, and cartons of beer.
"Five bottles of whiskey and five cartons of beer have been seized," Verma said.
India on Sunday reported the highest single-day spike of 90,633 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the national caseload past the 41-lakh mark.
With 1,065 more deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 70,626.
The total case tally stands at 41,13,812 including 8,62,320 active cases, 31,80,866 cured/discharged/migrated.
The active cases in Maharashtra have reached 2,21,012 followed by Andhra Pradesh at 1,00,880.
India had breached the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, and crossed 40 lakh on September 5.
