Coronavirus Outbreak: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's parents test COVID-19 positive

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday reported that several members of his family have been infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19), including his father and former chief minister Shibu Soren, as well as his mother, Rupi Devi.

76-year-old Shibu Soren and his wife Rupi were reported to be infected with COVID-19 on late Friday night, along with five other members of Chief Minister Hemant Soren's family.

The Jharkhand Chief Minister took to his official handle on Twitter to post the update regarding his family's health.

"Last night, the coronavirus test results of the venerable Baba Dishom Guru Ji and of my mother came back positive. Currently, both of them are in home isolation and are following appropriate medical protocols. With the blessings of the country and the people of Jharkhand, soon my father and mother will be back among all of us," Hemant Soren tweeted in Hindi.

कल रात आदरणीय बाबा दिशोम गुरु जी और माँ की कोरोना संक्रमण रिपोर्ट पॉजिटिव आयी। वे दोनों होम आइसोलेशन में हैं और स्वास्थ्य लाभ ले रहे हैं।

देश और झारखण्डवासियों की दुआओं के साथ जल्द ही आदरणीय बाबा और माँ हम सभी के बीच होंगे।

A total of 29 samples, of Shibu Soren and of the rest of the kin, have been collected from the Soren residence. Seven of them were found to be COVID-19 positive.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and former Chief Minister of the state Arjun Munda, in a message, wished Shibu Soren and his wife a speedy recovery. Munda tweeted in Hindi, "I have received the news of the revered Guruji Shri Shibu Soren Ji and his wife Rupi Soren testing positive for coronavirus. May God grant you a healthy and swift recovery."

Earlier, Chief Minister Hemant Soren's COVID-19 test was conducted when the security personnel at his residence were found infected with the coronavirus. In addition, the chief minister and his family had undergone COVID-19 tests when his cabinet colleague Mithlesh Thakur had tested positive for the disease.
