The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat is believed to be in search of a Kashmiri journalist, who may have used his or her influence to help Bashir Ahmed Baba get access to vital installations in the city.

The journalist may also have helped update Baba about latest terrorist' development in Kashmir and may have lend a helping hand in recruiting youths from Gujarat to train them in terror activities in Pakistan.

"Teams of central security agencies have been sent to help the Gujarat  police nab the journalist who is alleged to have provided vital support to Baba on several occasions," official sources said.

Sources said that the role played by the journalist surfaced after Baba was monitored and the monitoring threw up constant reference to the journalist.

A source in Gujarat police told DNA that a thorough search has been undertaken to nab the journalist. Though no official was willing to confirm about raids that were conducted in connection with Baba, sources in Anand police told DNA that early on Tuesday evening, raids were conducted in Bhalej Overbridge Road area to find Baba's links. 

ATS, Gujarat chief, Ajay Tomar too did not confirm about the any journalist's connections to Baba. However, the ATS police team along with Anand police is believed to have conducted raids in Anand and later on also went to Vadodara to re-trace Baba's steps. A source said that the journalist had comparatively easier access to vital installations and hence could have helped Baba.

Sources said that the journalist is said to have played a crucial role in helping Baba send youths to Pakistan for terror training besides helping the Hizbul militant to conduct recce of key sites like ISRO in city.

Sources in central security agencies have also learnt that the journalist used his links to help Baba identify youths in Gujarat who were sympathetic to the cause of jihad and were willing to get trained to carry out spying operations for Pakistan-based terror groups, the source said.

In fact, it is believed that a nationwide manhunt has been launched to nab the journalist who is alleged to be an accomplice of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant.
