BJP on Tuesday slammed Congress alleging that there seems to be a growing competition among its leaders for lowering the morale of the armed forces.

Referring to the comments made by three senior Congress leaders – Digvijay Singh, Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram – Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "We are deeply pained by the comments of the Congress leaders.

They don't have faith in our armed forces. Today, when Indian foreign policy has completely isolated Pakistan and not even a single country in the whole world has sought evidence on India's airstrike, these Congress leaders are asking for proof. This shows they don't believe in the armed forces of the country."

Prasad said for its "extraneous political interest", the Congress is "weakening" the morale of our armed forces. "What the Congress is up to?" he asked.

"These three senior Congress leaders are not saying all these in isolation. It was part of a design with the blessings of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Let the people of the country seek answers from the Congress top brass," he said.

Earlier in the day, Digvijay Singh in a tweet had termed the Pulwama terror attack a "durghatna" (accident) and said foreign media are casting aspersions on India's air strikes, questioning "credibility" of the govt.

Union Minister VK Singh, too reacted to Singh's comments, tweeting: "Calling a terrorist attack an 'accident' should NOT be the political discourse in our country. @digvijaya_28 ji, would you call Rajiv Gandhi's assassination an accident? Don't weaken the nation & the morale of our armed forces with these senseless jibes."
