    At least four prisoners escaped from the Ludhiana Central Jail in Punjab on Thursday after clashes broke out between inmates and prison guards. While the escaped prisoners were soon captured and brought back, some of them are said to be injured in the clashes. 

    According to sources, the clash started after death of an inmate. A fire was also started inside the jail during the clashes and the fire brigade was rushed to the jail, according to ANI.

    A heavy police force was deployed inside the premises to control the riots. Sources said two groups of prisoners clashed with each other and when the guards tried to bring intervene they also came under attack. The prison guards also fired in the air to bring the mob under control. 

    At least six prisoners and four policemen were injured in the clashes.

    Four prisoners who tried to escape were brought back. Officials said a final head count will be done in the evening to make sure that there were no escaped prisoners.
