The police have tracked 11 friends of Karan Thakur suspected to be in the grip of the deadly game and seven are from the DAV Senior Secondary School where he was studying, reported Indian Express.
The police contacted their parents and got their mobiles confiscated. Along with Karan’s phone, they have been sent to the Digital Investigation Training and Analysis Centre in Gurgaon to analyze the data and retrieve deleted information.
Police told the daily that they took a decision to get the mobile data examined by experts in Gurgaon.
The report also said that the Panchkula police have issued an advisory on Tuesday, which said: “Reach out to your kids before the Blue Whale does”. The five-point advisory asks the parents to monitor their children’s online activity.
Schools have also been asked to observe any visible marks like cuts or wounds on the body and verify the precise cause.
In the last few months, the deadly online game has claimed several lives. Last week, a 12-year-old boy was found dead on railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh.
The Blue Whale Challenge is reportedly a suicide game in which the player is given certain tasks to complete over a period of 50 days and the final task leads him or her to commit suicide.
The player is also asked to share photos after finishing each challenge.
Admitting to being the driving factor behind the suicides of youngsters playing the game, Philipp Budeikin, who claims to have created the game, says that the victims were just ‘biological waste’.
"Victims were ‘happy to die’ and I am ‘cleansing society’," Budeikin told police when he was arrested in May this year.
A 17-year-old Russian girl has also been arrested by police for allegedly being the mastermind behind the Blue Whale Challenge, that encouraged players to commit suicide.
