On Monday, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Mukherjee spoke out about the death of a young BJP supporter in Balarampur

He claimed that the death was caused by a clash between BJP’s local unit and Bajrang Dal.

He was quoted saying by ANI: “Unfortunate, action will be taken, but it is due to their inner fight, its a clash between BJP local unit and Bajrang Dal. I challenge you, show me evidence of TMC involvement and I will ensure that person is jailed.”

A BJP worker's body was found hanging from a tree in Balarampur, West Bengal on Tuesday. Etched on Trilochan Mahato's shirt was an ominous message, " Now face the consequence of doing BJP at the age of 18".

Mahato's family has lodged complaint against six people who had a tiff with him after panchayat poll results. His family has alleged that TMC workers have killed him. However, ruling party has denied all allegations.

In the recently concluded panchayat elections, BJP did very well in Purulia district finishing close second to TMC. Particularly in Balarampur, BJP swept the area. Mahato was an active worker for BJP. The party not only won 7 panchayats in the area, it won Balarampur Panchayat Samiti and even made its debut in Zilla Parishad. The TMC Zilla Parisad President lost his own seat.

Mahato was a third year History honours student in Balarampur college. He was missing from Tuesday evening. According to his elder brother, around 9 PM, Mahato called saying that some people have abducted him. He feared for his life and pleaded his brother to do something. Police used the call tower of the phone to first trace Trilochan Mahato's cycle and later his body hanging from a tree.

A note accompanying the death body said,"Doing election work for BJP at the age of 18 has become fatal for you. We wanted to do this since elections. Today you are finished".

Amit Shah tweeted to express condolence.  In his tweets, Shah said the life of young BJP worker, Trilochan Mahato, was "taken under the state's patronage" because his ideology was different from that of "state-sponsored goons".

"Deeply hurt by the brutal killing of our young karyakarta, Trilochan Mahato, in Balarampur, West Bengal. A young life full of possibilities was brutally taken under state's patronage. He was hanged on a tree just because his ideology differed from that of state-sponsored goons," Shah said on Twitter.
