Union Minister of State, Ministry of Ayush, Shripad Naik is of the opinion that Ayurveda should be adopted as the main medical practice for treatment of diseases and not as an alternative. Further stressing upon the importance of the practice, he said that Ayurveda can play a vital role in realising the vision of Clean India-Healthy India initiative of prime minister Narendra Modi.

Naik was addressing the inaugural function of the First National Ayurveda Youth Festival at the National Institute of Ayurveda in the city on Thursday. The three-day festival is being organised by the Union Ministry of Ayush, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur and National Ayurveda Students and Youth Association (NASYA, a unit of Vijnana Bharati). Around 3,000 youths are participating in the festival.

Highlighting the scope of Ayurveda, Naik urged young practitioners, studying Ayurveda, to stay confident and seriously pursue their carrier because in future they will be in huge demand from different departments including Railway, Labour and Border Security Force.

On the occasion, medical and health minister Kalicharan Saraf said that Rajasthan is the first state where Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Greek, Natural and Yoga medical techniques are being taught. He said that Rajasthan will soon become a model state in the area of Ayurveda. Saraf also urged the union minister to give Deemed University status to the National Institute of Ayurveda.

Moreover, various competitions including dance, conversation and vocal singing will also be organised during the festival. On Friday, the second day of the festival, more than 1,000 medical practitioners will practice Nasya Karma (administration of medicines through nasal route) together and it will be registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
