A man has filed a police complaint against his wife accusing her of forging their marriage document.

Yagnesh Panchal, a resident of Vishram Society in Ambawadi, has filed a complaint with the Ellisbridge police station alleging that his wife, Vaishali, had forged their marriage certificate. She had done so to present it as proof of their marriage, in connection with a complaint of violence registered earlier by her, the husband’s complaint says.

He has further alleged that Vaishali had falsified information about the place where their marriage took place and had even forged the name and signature of the priest who performed the ceremony.

Vaishali works with an NGO while Yagnesh is in the marketing department of an internet service provider company.

Vaishali had earlier filed a complaint against her husband under Section 498-A accusing her husband of domestic violence. It is mandatory for the complainant to provide a marriage certificate as part of the petition. Yagnesh’s complaint states that Vaishali had provided a forged marriage certificate with her petition.

Sources said that the couple were married some 23 years ago and have a son who studies abroad. “The wife started earning well over the years and this had led to conflict in the marriage,” a source said.

Ellisbridge police are investigating the matter.
