SP Balasubrahmanyam remains in a critical condition. He is on Ventilator and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support in the ICU at MGM Healthcare. The singer was diagnosed positive for COVID-19 and is receiving treatment for the same.

The hospital in Chennai shared an official statement on Wednesday (August 19, 2020) in which they have stated that a team of experts is treating SPB. The note also read that his vital parameters are satisfactory at this point of time.

The bulletin from the hospital, shared by MGM Healthcare Assistant Director Dr. Anuradha Bhaskaran read, "Thiru S P Balasubrahmanyam who had been admitted at MGM Healthcare due to COVID-19 continues to be critical and is on Ventilator and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  The expert medical team treating him is closely monitoring his vital parameters which are satisfactory at this point of time."

Balasubrahmanyam's son SP Charan had confirmed the news of the renowned singer being on ventilator on Tuesday itself. He had also stated that a team of experts is examining him.

SPB was admitted to the hospital on August 5, 2020. Renowned celebrities from the South Indian film industry, like Rajinikanth, Sivakumar and others wished him a speedy recovery. More so, they all are gathering for a prayer for his recovery today. Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are expected at the prayers.
