After the recent Darshan-Vijayalakshmi-Nikitha controversy, it’s now time for Kollywood to spice up the headlines. Actor Sona Heiden was allegedly molested by SPB Charan, son of famed singer SP Balasubramaniam, at a party on Wednesday.
Sona, who has done a couple of Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films, is currently in a state of shock and is hospitalised in Chennai.
The incident took place when director Venkat Prabhu threw a success party for his latest film, Mankatha. Several people from the industry, including Vaibhav Reddy, Premgi Amaren, SPB Charan among others, were partying until late night. Sona, who went there to collect the final sum of her remuneration from Venkat, didn’t expect what was in store for her from Charan.
The actor, who had a panic attack after the incident, is currently being treated in a hospital in Chennai. In a quick chat with After Hrs, she says, “My acting career is almost coming to an end as I am getting older. I am currently concentrating on my production house. I’ve already lost my career, now I don’t want to lose my self-respect.”
Probe her about the incident and she says, “I’m a heart patient and am currently nursing a ligament tear as well. I went to the party to collect the final sum of my payment. There were a couple of actors along with some unknown faces in the party. I was shocked to see everyone drunk, and in a matter of a few minutes, Charan sexually assaulted me and abused me using filthy language.”
Sona has filed an FIR and asked Charan to issue a public apology for the same. “When I tried to stop him, he questioned me back saying that when actresses can do it on screen, why can’t we do it now? I was in a state of shock when I heard that and he went about abusing women in the film industry and even tried touching my private parts. Later, Venkat and Premgi had to come to my rescue,” she says.
She also informs that a couple of their mutual friends are asking her to mellow down and compromise on this issue. However, Sona is not convinced and is all set to fight for her justice. “I haven’t slept for three days and am constantly on medication. A couple of his friends tried to solve this issue by trying to convince me that his children will get affected. But won’t my parents too be affected?” questions Sona, adding, “I am one of the boldest people in this industry, someone who requires no bodyguard... it’s shocking that this incident has happened to me. He (Charan) is hiding somewhere, but I will not stop here nor will I compromise. I will fight for justice.”
