If you are aspiring to join a BSc course at any of the state government degree colleges, then it is advisable that you first verify the number of applications received by the college for that course. For, if the applications received are less than 15, it would be safer to look out for another college.

This is exactly the instruction issued by the state department of collegiate education for government degree colleges across the state affiliated to various state universities. As per the decision taken by the department, colleges will not be allowed to admit less than 15 students into any course or combination. A circular has been issued about this decision.

Meanwhile, college authorities have been asked to advise students on joining other courses/combinations which have a good students strength or shift to a nearby college which has the sufficient number of admissions for that particular course.

The circular says, “In all the government colleges across the state for existing undergraduate courses and combinations there should be at least 15 students.

If the number of students admitted to any course is less than 15, then it is a must to advise them to shift to a nearby government college or to the course which has a good number of admissions.”

Exceptions would be Home Science, Music, Journalism, Geology, Electronics, Statistics, Women’s Studies and Criminology. The number of seats can be relaxed for these courses. The total number of government degree colleges in the state is 359.
