Meet Indian genius who joined IIT at 22, was sacked from IIT job after few years, is now jobless, here’s why

Bihar-born Tathagat Avatar Tulsi was once called the child genius of India and he is still considered by many as one of the most talented physicists India has ever seen. Tathagat Avatar Tulsi was born on September 9, 1987 in Bihar and he was a very bright student from an early age. Tulsi succeeded in completing his schooling when he was just 9.

At 11, Tulsi left everyone stunned by earning a BSc degree from Patna Science College. Tulsi completed MSc from the same college after one year. After earning his MSc degree, Tathaghat Avatar Tulsi went to Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and completed his PhD when he was just 21. Tulsi had applied for PhD programme at the age of 17. He was described as a “good boy, very lovable, and working to achieve his goals” by the then-physics department dean at IISC

Tathagat Avatar Tulsi was a known name of his time and in 2010, he was invited by IIT-Mumbai to work as an Assistant Professor on contract. Tulsi taught at IIT-Mumbai for nine years before he was sacked in 2019 after he went on a long leave due to some illness.

According to Tulsi, he fell ill in 2011 and was later diagnosed with an allergy. In 2013, Tulsi took four-year leave from IIT-Mumbai and left for Patna. According to reports, Tulsi is still living in Patna and he is currently jobless. Tathaghat Avatar Tulsi was once referred as one of the most talented Asian children. He received the nicknames “Superteen” by Science, “Physics Prodigy” by The TIMES, and “Master Mind” by The WEEK.
