The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary education will permit all students who failed in class 9 and class 11 to appear in class 10th and class 12th board examinations from the academic year 2020-2021.

Goa Board of Secondary Education’s executive council approved the proposal on Friday, which will allow all candidates of class 9 and class 11 to sit for supplementary examinations even if they fail in more than two subjects as opposed to the previous policy which allowed students with backlogs in one or two subjects to appear for the exams.

Ramkrishna Samant, Chairman, Goa Board of Secondary Education said that all the students who failed in the 9th and 11th standard will be allowed to sit for their board exams. However, the result will be withheld until they clear the backlog in 2 years.

"The board has decided to allow students detained in Class 9 and 11 to appear for supplementary examinations even if they failed in more than two subjects. While studying in Class 10, 12, the students will get a chance to clear their papers”, Samant told the Indian Express.

1500 students have registered for the supplementary exams this year which concluded on June 21, 2019.

Goa Board has also planned to introduce astronomy and biotechnology as optional subjects in class 9 and class 11.
