The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is developing an IT system to assist schools with tabulating class 12 results by easing down calculation work and reducing time taken, after this year's board exams were cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The exams for both CBSE Class 10,12  were cancelled by CBSE in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The board has announced its alternative assessment policy for both classes. While schools have been asked to submit class 10 marks till June 30, the deadline for schools to compile class 12 marks is July 15.

New IT system

While a 'Policy for Tabulation of Marks for Class 12 Board Examinations 2021' has already been issued, the new IT system aims to ease calculation work, reduce time and address other hassles.

"This system will also pre-populate marks of Class 10 of the students passed from CBSE. Efforts will also be made to take other Boards' class 10 results data," an official statement said.

It further added that the CBSE would continuously communicate with all the schools to ensure that results are prepared by schools without problems.

Help desk to assist schools

The CBSE will also establish a help desk to assist schools in preparation of result for both Class 10 and Class 12 from next week.

It further noted that schools will have to provide Class 10 theory marks for only those students who passed class 10 from other Boards and Class XI final theory marks should also be kept ready in soft form.

CBSE Class 12 results: Marking policy

"Similarly, Class 12 proposed final theory marks based on Unit tests, Mid Terms and Pre-Boards should also be kept ready by the schools," it said, adding that a portal would soon be made available for updating of information about class 10 roll no, board and year.

According to the policy for class 12 results, decided by a 13-member panel set up by the board, the theory paper evaluation formula is 30 per cent weightage will be given to Class 10 marks, 30 per cent to Class 11 marks and 40 per cent weightage to Class 12 marks obtained in unit test/mid-term/pre-board exams.

Marks obtained by class 12 students in practical and internal assessment on an actual basis as uploaded by schools on CBSE Portal will be also considered in deciding final results.

CBSE Class 10 results: Evaluation criteria

The CBSE scheme further elaborated that for Class 10, the 30 per cent marks based on average theory component of best three performing subjects out of main five subjects will be taken.

According to the evaluation criteria announced for class 10 students, while 20 marks for each subject will be for internal assessment as every year, 80 marks will be calculated on basis of the students' performance in various tests or exams throughout the year.
