A day after a double murder shook north Delhi's Wazirabad on Monday, the prime suspect in the case was found dead in his native town near Kanpur, UP, on Tuesday. Mohit, husband of one of the deceased women, allegedly committed suicide. His blood-stained clothes and a mobile phone belonging to his wife, Premlata, were also recovered from him.

Police said Mohit first slit his right hand's wrist and then hung himself. "Primary medical examination has stated hanging as the cause of death. A strip of salphas tablets was also found near the body. Three glasses and an empty liquor bottle were also recovered," a senior police officer said.

Police further said that Mohit's family was unaware that he was in town. "He reached Kanpur and went to his farms. The Delhi Police were tracking him through his and his wife's mobile phone. They reached the spot before the UP Police. The bag he was carrying was taken by the Delhi Police for investigation and the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem," the officer said.

DCP (North) Jatin Narwal confirmed the death and ruled out the possibility of any foul play. "It is being probed whether Mohit was behind the murder of these two women. The involvement of an outsider is also being looked at," he said.

Bodies of the two women, Premlata, 24, and her sister-in-law Sonia, 22, were found lying in pools of blood at Sonia's residence in north Delhi's Wazirabad. They had multiple sharp stab injuries on their throats, which were inflicted using either an ice prick or a needle-like thing, the police said.

The murders came to light after Sonia's father called her early in the morning but no one answered his calls. He then asked the tenants in the building to check on Sonia. The tenants found the two women and called up the police.
