Police have busted a gang and arrested two men including an auto driver, who used to hire autos and then rob the drivers at secluded stretches across Delhi. Police said that the accused auto driver needed more autos in order to earn more money and therefore hatched the robberies.

The accused have been identified as Manoj alias Golu (22), a resident of Faridabad who works as part time auto driver. He used to drive auto on rent for the last two years but the money earned was not sufficient to fulfil his needs. In need of another auto, he planned the robbery with the motive to change the number plate and use the auto to ferry people in Haryana. He was also found involved in a previous rape case of Jaitpur area. His aide was identified as Sombir alias Nene (24).

Senior police officers said that it was on Sunday when a PCR call was received at New Friends Colony police station reporting that a three-wheeler has been robbed near Taimoor Nagar Gurudwara and the robbers have taken cash and mobile phone from the victim driver. DCP southeast, Chinmoy Biswal said that the GPS fitted in auto showed its final position near Anang Pur Dairy, Sector 37 in Faridabad.

"Immediately teams rushed to the spot and traced the robbed auto rickshaw was spotted. Police came to know that two young men parked the auto in the morning. A trap was laid and at around 6 pm on Monday, a man came and started the auto and tried to run away. The team swung into the action and apprehended him on the spot, who was later identified as Manoj," Biswal said.

Later, on the instance on the accused Manoj, raids were conducted at the house of Sombir and he was also arrested.
