The Delhi government has constituted a three-member committee to examine the implementation of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013. The committee will comprise the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Commissioner, and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO.

Appearing for the Delhi government, its counsel Siddharth Dutta informed the Delhi High Court on Monday that the committee will prepare an action plan for cleaning of drains, sewer lines, and septic tanks through mechanical means.

The committee will also chalk out a roadmap to achieve 100 per cent mechanisation within a stipulated time frame, besides preparing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for cleaning of sewer lines, which would be implemented by all agencies diligently.
