One person who took can be held responsible for the people of India losing confidence in the UPA government during its second term, it would be Prashant Bhushan. 2G spectrum and Coal block allocation litigation represented by Bhushan paved way for Anna Andolan in 2011 and ultimately fall of Congres led government.

Bhushan's father and former law minister in the Janta Party government Shanti Bhushan also has a similar credit to his name. Shanti Bhushan was the lawyer who represented the Raj Narain case in the court against Indira Gandhi in the year 1975. Indira Gandhi lost the case, hence her seat. Gandhi later imposed an Emergency on June 25, 1975.

Prashant Bhushan was just 19 years old when he witnessed his father take on the might of Indira Gandhi in Allahabad High Court. By 1983, he started practicing and represented environmental issues and human rights issues.

During his career as Public Interest Litigator Prashant has represented displaced protestors of Narmada Bachao Andolan, Bhopal Gas victims, protestors of the nuclear power plant in Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu.

Prashant Bhushan also had a brief stint with politics when the Anna Movement decided to form a political outfit as Aam Aadmi Party. This did not last long as he and his close friend Yogendra Yadav started to have differences with Delhi Chief Minister and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

He has a reputation of an activist but has also been accused of conspiring on many occasions. His critics would tell that the most hyped cases of 2G spectrum allocation and coal scam have not been substantiated with shreds of evidence in the court of law.

The career of Prashant Bhushan has been full of controversies, the latest Supreme Court of India contempt case might not be the last as well. The lawyer community-backed him and he can consider it as a moral victory for himself. But as he says that he was ready to go to jail as did his father, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
