Good roads, free Wi-Fi and better environmental conditions were among the major promises made by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to Delhiites on the third anniversary of the AAP government on Wednesday.

Kejriwal said that the government will make "massive investment" to improve the condition of roads and develop drainage system, and will "soon"start providing free Wi-Fi service, a key poll promise of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), to the residents of the national Capital.

"We will soon inform the date of (implementing) free Wi-Fi. But the Delhi government is going to implement free Wi-Fi this year and for this, a provision of a separate fund will be made in the budget," he said while addressing a gathering at the NDMC convention center.

Earlier, the AAP government had announced that more than 500 locations across East Delhi would be made high-speed Wi-Fi zones by December 2016, allowing access to free internet till a pre-determined limit daily, but it could not be implemented. Opposition parties have attacked it on several occasions for failing to deliver the long-pending promise.

In 2015, on this day, the AAP had stormed to power, winning 67 of 70 seats leaving the ruling BJP in a fix.

The chief minister, talking about the safety in the city, said the process to install CCTV cameras across Delhi has been started, which was another poll-bound promise of the AAP. "It will help in ensuring the safety of women across the city," Kejriwal added.

The Delhi government also announced to conduct a round-the-year air quality study to ascertain sources of pollution in the city. "In view of various sources of pollution around the year, we will conduct a round-the-year study. Besides, we will carry out a tree plantation drive on a large scale to bring down pollution levels," he said, adding several agencies, which dig up roads for their work, will be asked to repair them as well.

The CM also told the gathering that his government has planned to procure machines which can detect sources of pollution at any given time and the government would then act accordingly.

Delhi has touched alarming pollution levels several times in the last two years and the AAP government has been taking several steps to curb it.
