Taking forward its initiative to promote a clean and green environment, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation launched Clean & Green Drive at the HUDA City Centre Metro station on Friday, which was inaugurated by Vipul Goel, Ministry of Environment, Industrial Training and Industries & Commerce, Haryana, in the presence of Dr Mangu Singh, Managing Director DMRC Ltd.

The DMRC also distributed around 1,000 saplings to residents of Gurgaon to promote the message of green environment.

As per this unique initiative by DMRC, M/s Nurturing Green Retail Pvt. Ltd will also develop and maintain the complete horticulture area from Patel Chowk to HUDA City Centre Metro station for six years.

As part of the project, the HUDA City Centre Metro Station has been equipped with an ‘O2 chamber’, an exclusive purified air centre, which will provide pure and clean air to people.

The area has been set up using air purifiers and plants. Earlier, the DMRC had organised Sewa Diwas, Samagra Swachhata Diwas and Sarvatra Swachhata Diwas which included extensive cleaning at all its premises and guiding/counselling general public to abstain from defacing Metro property. DMRC also staged street plays at major stations highlighting the importance of cleanliness.

In the recent past, DMRC’s Eco Club has also organized the ‘Swachh Chetna’ – tree plantation drives across a number of locations in Delhi and NCR to promote environmental conservation. DMRC has also tied up with the World Wide Fund (WWF) to start the ‘Adopt a tree’ campaign. As part of this campaign, 6,000 saplings of native tree species were distributed at 15 Metro stations to individuals free of cost.
