According to the police a call was received on November 14 about ruckus being created by a man identified as Vikas and Monu alias Judi in Chhath Puja Sthal of Hind Vihar Colony. When the police staff reached the location they were informed that Vikas and Monu along with their friends Sonu, Sandeep and a juvenile had molested a lady and they were caught and beaten up by public present there.
Vikas saw the police and thinking he would be arrested as he was an accused in another case as well he fled the location along with Sandeep.
"The police team chased Vikas near a railway track. He even jumped in a pool of dirty water near the railway line to save himself but was caught by the police. Meanwhile a mob of 40-50 persons arrived there. Infuriated from the act of accused Vikas having molested a lady on their festival and sacred place of Chhath Puja Sthal, the mob had beaten Vikas and Sandeep. The police officials then rescued the accused from the mob and brought him to the police station," said Seju P Kuruvilla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer)
The woman who was molested also gave a statement to the police and subsequently Sonu and his friends Vikas, Monu, Sandeep, juvenile and his brother.
In the video that went viral, a man in a Nehru jacket is seen thrashing a man with a stick. People standing there were busy in making videos but no one came forward for the man who was pleading for help apart from the cops. As the situation became more intense, one policeman is trying to protect the man and pushing away the other two who were blatantly hitting him with a stick. Later when the situation became aggresive, cops intervened and took the man who was beaten with them.
