The colleagues of Kedar Kumar Mandal said on Tuesday that he has an inconsistent personality, with no fixed ideology. The Assistant Professor at Delhi University's Dyal Singh College had recently made headlines after posting an objectionable statement about Goddess Durga on Facebook.

Mandal, who teaches Hindi at the college, was suspended by the college administration on Monday and an internal inquiry committee has also been set up to look into the matter.

"He is an activist type of person, but doesn't have any fixed ideology. He keeps on changing his stance," said a professor at the college's Department of Hindi.

Mandal, who calls himself an Ambedkarite on social media, has worked as a member of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RSLP), an ally of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar in 2015. "He joined as the head of RLSP's intellectual unit in 2015, before the Assembly polls. He worked for a few months but was asked to leave when he started demanding a ticket to contest the elections," RSLP spokesperson Balendra Kumar said.

According to his colleagues, off late, Mandal could be seen promoting Congress, and a photo of him along with Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had gone viral on social media.

"He is unpredictable. He calls himself an Ambedkarite and still worked for a BJP ally. Now, he is promoting Congress. He has an inconsistent personality," said another professor. "He has also contested elections for the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) and the University's Academic Council (AC) in 2014-15, but lost both," he added.

Mandal, who is still untraceable, had posted a derogatory statement about the Goddess on Saturday. Afterwards, the BJP-backed National Democratic Teachers' Front had filed a police complaint against him and an FIR was registered the next day.
