From being the most awaited day to a boring day of unlimited waiting, things turned around pretty quickly for the cricket fans on the first day of the World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand as the first day's play was called off due to excessive rains.
The two teams, who are on the verge of becoming the first-ever Test champions in the 144-year history of the game, played the waiting game, like the fans, organisers, and everyone involved as the rains refused to go away. For an hour and a half when they did stop, there was a hope of resumption, but it returned 20 minutes before the scheduled inspection time and the umpires officially announced the decision, which looked inevitable after the amount of water that settled in on the outfield.
That means the fans, organisers and everyone will wake up on Saturday with renewed hope, wishing that they get to see some cricket and the final does get kicked off.
However, the first day was full of gloom for all the fans as they reacted with hilarious memes after the play was abandoned. While many said that ICC shouldn't hold important event games in England due to bad weather, while many were sad seeing no cricket taking place.
