Team India opener Rohit Sharma's heroics in the Super Over helped the Men In Blue beat New Zealand in a nail-baiting third T20I at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday (January 29).

Batting first, India hoisted a total of 179/5 thanks to some top-notch batting display from Sharma.

Rohit was in formidable touch on the day and formed an 89-run stand for the first wicket with KL Rahul.

In chase of a target score of 180, New Zealand got off to the perfect start with Martin Guptill and Colin Munro forming a 47-run partnership for the first wicket.

Pacer Shardul Thakur got the first breakthrough for India by sending Guptill back to the dressing room for 31 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja came in dismissed Munro (14) in the seventh over, reducing the home side to 52-2.

However, it was skipper Kane Williamson who rejuvenated the chase for the Blackcaps on the chase and formed a 36 run stand for the third wicket with Mitchell Santner.

Santner's innings of 9 runs came to an end in the 11th over when Yuzvendra Chahal clean bowled him.

Williamson played a captain's knock and brought up his half-century in just 28 deliveries.

After Colin de Grandhome's dismissal, Williamson and Ross Taylor knitted together a 41-run stand for the fifth wicket and took New Zealand ever so close to victory.

With just nine runs required from the final six balls, Mohammed Shami dismissed the well-set Williamson (95) off the third ball of the over. The Kiwis needed just 2 runs off 3 balls but Shami gave just one run and bowled Taylor on the last bowl of the innings and the match headed to a super over.

In the super-over, the Kiwis came out and hoisted a target score of 18 runs for India batting first. On the chase, India scored three runs off the first two balls of the over but with 14 runs required from 3 deliveries, Rohit Sharma smashed back-to-back sixes off the final two balls for India to secure the victory.
