Australia women's cricketer Alyssa Healy reacted sharply after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it is planning to conduct the Women's Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Women's T20 Challenge this year during the same time as that of the Men's IPL.
The IPL Governing Council meeting is taking place as of now to finalise the schedule and other key arrangements for the men's IPL, which is now to be held in the UAE.
The 2020 edition of the IPL was slated to commence from March 29 but the tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. It will now take place from September 19 to November 8.
The women’s IPL could be played towards the end of the tournament with November 1-10 as the reported dates. However, these dates seem to overlap with that of the women’s Big Bash League which is scheduled to be held from October 17 to November 29 in Australia.
After reading the news, the Australian wicketkeeper-batsman took to Twitter and retweeted a Tweet and wrote, "So during the WBBL.... cool".
She also raised questions about the availability of Indian cricketers who are to play in the WBBL this season.
Healy was also joined by Australia women’s team vice-captain Rachael Haynes who said if both WIPL and WBBL clashed it will be ‘a shame.
If true, it’s a shame... while the game continues to grow, premier domestic competitions do not need to compete against each other. They can be used to showcase the game and support its development around the world.”
According to ANI, "Plan for women`s T20 challenge series is in our discussion. We have a plan for our women's team also," the source said
