South Africa's dominant performance against Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup 2023 group stage match at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium resulted in a resounding 149-run victory, leaving the Bangladesh team in a precarious position, facing the prospect of an early exit from the tournament following their fourth consecutive loss. Bangladesh had previously suffered defeats against England, New Zealand, and India.

South Africa's impressive batting prowess was on display as they posted a massive total of 382 for 5, marking their 3rd 350-plus total in the ongoing World Cup. Quinton de Kock played an exceptional innings, scoring 174 runs, including 15 fours and seven sixes, contributing significantly to South Africa's imposing total. Heinrich Klaasen's explosive knock of 90 off just 49 balls further bolstered South Africa's batting performance.

In response, Bangladesh faced the daunting task of chasing 383 for their second win in the World Cup. However, they got off to a disastrous start as South African pace duo Marco Jansen and Lizaad Williams made early breakthroughs, dismissing key Bangladeshi batsmen. Jansen's early dismissals of Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto, followed by Williams removing Shakib Al Hasan, put Bangladesh under immense pressure at 31/3 in 7.2 overs.

Despite a spirited effort by some of the Bangladeshi batsmen, South African bowlers proved too formidable. This comprehensive victory propelled South Africa to the second spot in the World Cup 2023 points table, overtaking New Zealand and trailing behind the leading team, India.

Notably, Quinton de Kock's outstanding performance enabled him to surpass Virat Kohli's record for the most runs in the tournament and also break David Warner's previous record of 163 for the highest individual score in the ongoing World Cup. South Africa's strong finish, highlighted by David Miller's unbeaten 34 off 15 balls, further solidified their commanding position in the match. Despite a brief interruption due to Markram's dismissal, South Africa's batting display remained dominant, as evidenced by the remarkable partnerships built by de Kock and Klaasen.
