Dinesh Karthik ex-skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders, who is currently in England as part of the broadcasting team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final shed light on the remaining phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that will take place in the UAE in September-October and the availability of players.

“Cummins has said he is not coming but there’s still three months and Morgan may still be available. But if I am asked to lead, I don’t have a problem,” Karthik told The Times of India.

Karthik, who gave up KKR's captaincy during the last season of the IPL mid-season, has been serving as Eoin Morgan's deputy since. However, Morgan's captaincy hasn't been fruitful for the Kolkata franchise as they have won just 5 out of 14 games they have played under his leadership.

KKR narrowly missed out on qualification last year due to a lesser Net Run Rate as they had the same points as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who qualified in fourth place.

ECB Director Ashley Giles has confirmed that England players will not be returning for the rest of the IPL keeping workload management and international schedule in mind, while New Zealand and Australia players are also most likely to skip phase two of the IPL.
