Chris Gayle, considered to be the greatest batsman in the history of Twenty20 cricket, has reportedly undergone tests for the novel coronavirus after he had attended the birthday party of Usain Bolt, the legendary Jamaican sprinter and Gayle’s close friend. Bolt had taken to his social media handle informing everyone that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Gayle, who was also in the party, shared his ordeal on Instagram as he underwent the tests. Gayle was shown undergoing the throat and nose swab tests and he experienced plenty of pain and frustration. However, both the results of the novel coronavirus fortunately turned out to be negative for Gayle.

If Gayle’s tests for the coronavirus had turned out to be positive, then he would have missed the IPL 2020 due to the strict SOP’s of the biobubble issued by the BCCI. The current edition will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic and players will have to live in the biobubble at all times so as to minimize the risk of infection.

Bolt becomes positive

Bolt’s results which showed him positive for the novel coronavirus came as a shock to many people. There were many people who tragicomically stated that despite Bolt being the fastest runner on the planet, he could not outrun the coronavirus.

Gayle is all set to join the Kings XI Punjab side in the near future although he is currently not playing in the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. Gayle has not played any competitive cricket ever since the Dhaka T20 league where he played for the Challengers. IPL 2020 will be Gayle’s first competitive action since January 2020.

Kings XI Punjab will be determined to overcome their poor record in the Indian Premier League, having lost in the final of the 2014 edition to the Kolkata Knight Riders. Kings XI Punjab have endured a torrid run since then and in IPL 2020, they will be looking to set the record straight.
