Indian skipper Virat Kohli is making sure to either break old records or make history.

After being unbeaten against Sri Lanka in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series on Tuesday, the captain is eyeing a new record.

The swashbuckling batsman is just a run short from smashing 11,000 international runs as Indian captain.

Kohli can join his predecessor MS Dhoni across all formats and will become the sixth international captain to score 11k international runs.

In the second T20I, Kohli had surpassed Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma to become the leading run-scorer in the shorter format.

He needed a single run to eclipse the 'Hitman' on the list of the top scorer in T20Is.  The 31-year-old also amassed as many as 2,663 runs in 77 matches for India and is followed by his deputy Rohit in the elite list of T20I top scorers.

Kohli also became the fastest captain to score 1,000 runs in the format as well. The run-machine joined the likes of South African skipper Faf du Plessis, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, Eoin Morgan, and Ireland's William Porterfield by achieving the feat in Indore.

Now in the third and final T20I in Pune, Kohli and his men will look to clinch the series after the first match was abandoned due to rain at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
