Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul set a record for the highest opening partnership by any Indian duo vs Pakistan in a World Cup match at Old Trafford on Sunday in Manchester.
KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma handed Team India the perfect start in the World Cup 2019 high-profile matchup against rivals Pakistan in Manchester on Sunday. The Indian opening duo broke Sachin Tendulkar and Navjot Singh Sidhu's 23-year-old record for the longest opening run partnership at a World Cup match against Pakistan at Old Trafford.
During the World Cup'96 match vs Pakistan in Bengaluru Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar accomplished a 90-run partnership for the Blues as Team India went on to win the match by 37 runs.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul on Sunday broke the long-standing record in the 16th over. While Rohit took on the Pak-bowlers more aggressively, KL Rahul, on the other hand, played with a more calm approach. The opening pair added 100-plus runs for the opening wicket, therefore claiming the record.
This was only the 4th time ever an Indian duo managed to hit this kind if run stand vs Pakistan in the World Cup history. Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Kaif were the first due during the 2003 World Cup.
Rohit-Rahul's stand is now the highest stand for India against Pakistan for any wicket in ICC ODI World Cups, going past 129 runs stand between Dhawan and Kohli for second wicket came at Adelaide in 2015.#INDvPAK
