Not the start cricket fans expected when India and New Zealand were all set to face each other in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The 'Rain Gods' decided to pay a visit and soon the news of the toss being delayed was out. While fans still waited, it was later decided that Day 1 was called off due to rains.

The ICC WTC final was initially supposed to be held at Lords, but due to COVID-19 issues and bio-bubble facilities, the game shifted to Southampton. However, the weather does not look quite good.

The game does have a reserve day on June 23 but in case of a no-result, the Test Championship will be shared.

So what does Day 2 hold?

While fans had expected the game to finally begin on Day 1, the persistent drizzle had left the pitch and ground being moist and damp. Fortunately, the weather would be slightly better on Day 2.

Fans would be able to witness a significant amount of action as according to accuweather.com, the morning session would be partly sunny with the cloud cover of being 45%.

However, the weather in the afternoon session may not be cricket-friendly as some showers are expected. The rain is expected to get heavier as the day progresses, and groundsmen will have a tough job at hand. However, a significant amount of game being played is expected.

India and New Zealand's WTC journey:

Both sides have had phenomenal games in the inaugural WTC cycle. While Team India didn't do much wrong in this period and won one game after another, they did face the challenge from New Zealand.

The Men in Blue were defeated on the Kiwi home ground, but after that, they managed to win against every opponent in their campaign. On the other hand, for New Zealand, many fans and experts have backed Kane Williamson's men as favourites to clinch the WTC trophy.

One of the reasons being the conditions in England are pretty similar to that of New Zealand. Hence, adapting to their surroundings was not a massive challenge for them.

To top it off, the BlackCaps played two Tests against hosts England a few days prior and even won that series 1-0.
