Zhong Shanshan is the richest person in China with a net worth of USD 60 billion. He is the founder and chairman of Nongfu Spring, a bottled water company. Zhong was born in Hangzhou and he did not complete his schooling because of chaos which engulfed China during its Cultural Revolution. Zhong has tried his hands at several professions before launching his own business. According to Forbes, Zhong has worked as a construction worker, a newspaper reporter and a sales agent too. Zhong also controls Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy. His son Zhong Shu Zi is the non-executive director of Nongfu Spring.

Born in 1954, Zhong Shanshan’s main source of weath is beverages and pharmaceuticals. Zhong started his own bottled water company in Hangzhou in 1996. The company was renamed as Nongfu Spring and Zhong took a major decision in 1999 when Nongfu Spring stopped removing natural minerals from its water. The move proved to be hit and helped in the exposure of Nongfu Spring. It is to be noted that Nongfu Spring is the largest bottled water maker in China and one of the world’s largest beverage companies. Zhong’s company defeated big names like Coca-Cola, Watsons, and Pepsi to become the best-selling package beverage brand.

Zhong decided to bring Nongfu Spring's initial public offering in September 2020 and it played an important role in increasing the billionaire’s wealth. At the end of 2020, Zhong was listed as Asia's wealthiest person but the title of Asia’s wealthiest person is now with Mukesh Ambani, who has a net worth of USD 95.7 billion. The net worth of Gautam Adani, India’s second richest person, is USD 55 billion.
