The best global brands of 2017 list released on Monday by Interbrand, a brand consultancy based in the US, was dominated by technology companies. “Half of the ten brands at the top of the Best Global Brands 2017 list are in the technology sector... Each one of these brands either moved up on the list or stayed in the same place, which is a testament to their continued momentum.”

Apple Inc once again emerging as the number one brand. Google followed closely behind, indicating no change from last year’s second position.

While Microsoft moved up a space from ranking fourth in 2016 to the third spot in 2017, e-commerce giant, Amazon ranked fifth moving up from its eighth position in 2016.

Social networking major, Facebook, jumped seven spots to land at number eight this year. In 2016 it was ranked the 15th most trusted brand in the world.

“The top 10 brands hold 42% of the Best Global Brands total value,” Interbrand report said.

The top 20 names on the global brand list: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Coca Cola, Amazon, Samsung, Toyota, Facebook, Mercedes Benz, IBM, General Electric, McDonald’s, BMW, Disney, Intel, Cisco, Oracle, Nike, Louis Vuiton and Honda.

Under building brand names, home grown site Flipkart featured on the list. “...India’s Flipkart has reached valuations of $11 billion,” the report said.
