7th pay commission: Good news for BSNL employees as central government agrees to fulfil many demands including revision of pay and pension. In a circular dated 13th December 2018, the All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB) said the decisions were made in a meeting with the Department of Telecom (DoT) and Minister of State for Telecommunication Manoj Sinha.

The minister said that DoT had already written to the Ministry of Finance, with a positive recommendation, to solve this issue. A favourable reply is awaited from the Finance Ministry, after which this problem will be settled.

According to the circular, DoT had agreed to the demand to de-link the pension revision of BSNL retirees, from the Pay Revision of the serving employees. AUAB had taken the stand that Pension Revision is no way linked with Pay revision or the affordability of BSNL and it is finally accepted by DoT.

The breakthrough will strengthen the employees' demand for Pay Revision with full 15% fitment.

DoT had already prepared the Cabinet Note for allotting 4G spectrum to BSNL, and immediately after the notice was issued for indefinite strike, it was sent for Inter-Ministerial Consultation.

Earlier, BSNL employee unions of BSNL decided to defer their indefinite strike to December 10 if they fail to resolve issues in the proposed meeting with Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha.

BSNL unions have been demanding allocation of 4G spectrum to the public sector firm so that it is able to compete in the market and keep up the market share.

The employees are also demanding wage revision as per recommendations of 2nd and 3rd pay revision committee.
