Ranveer Singh has voiced the anti-hero in the Hindi version of the recently-released Deadpool 2
Deadpool 2 has finally hit the theatre screens today and it's already been declared a hit. But, some of the credit for the success of its Hindi version must surely be given to our Bollywood buoy Ranveer Singh, who has voiced the anti-hero in Hindi.
Speaking about getting the opportunity to associate with his favourite genre of superheroes, Ranveer told FirstPost: "When the first Deadpool was made, there was an online poll on who should play Deadpool if it was made in India. I was very happy when I saw that I had won that poll. And now many months later, I was offered to play the voice of Deadpool!"
Commenting on the rather expletive language of the character, an elated Ranveer added, "I thought it would be fun to use foul Hindi language onscreen. I just wanted to give gaalis onscreen. He's a particularly difficult character to dub for because he is so talkative. When you compare both the English and Hindi versions, you will be amazed."
In a recent interview with Indian Express, when asked what did he find most appealing about Deadpool, Ranveer said: "What I find most appealing about Deadpool is his uninhibited nature and his brand of irreverent humour. And I love the fact that he does not take himself too seriously or any situation seriously. That he always see the humour in situations and he is always on the lighter side of things."
"I think Ryan Reynolds is brilliant in the way that he plays Deadpool. There is so much of his own personality he infuses into the character, it really hits the home run. I really enjoyed this entire process. I think the Hindi version has its own charm and quality to it. For some reason – at least this is my personal opinion – crass Hindi just somehow sounds way more impactful than crass English. If you curse in English vs Hindi, for me there’s no comparison. Hindi is just way cooler and way more of an impact. I can vouch for that since I have done this. As I had explicated to Mr Ryan Reynolds in my tweet, it is so fulfilling to be able to curse in Hindi in a film for a character. It’s the best thing. I’m so glad I did this," he added.
Ranveer had earlier shared the Hindi trailer of the film on Twitter with the caption: "Astonishing how effectively I’ve managed to out-crass my Canadian counterpart @VancityReynolds. Never realised how fulfilling & rewarding foul Hindi language can be!" Reynolds had replied to the tweet by saying that if he tried to curse in Hindi, that would surely result in an international incident. The trailer was given a A rating as the studio wanted to stick to the tone of the English film which has Reynolds mouthing cuss-words.
Deadpool's Hindi version uses one of the slang popularised by Jackie Shroff ‘Mausi***.’ However, the senior actor feels that children shouldn't pick up the slang. “I did so in jest. People need to understand that as actors, we try to de-stress by joking around. But, I would like to tell kids that they should learn good things rather than pick up [the habit of using] slang,” he told Mid-Day.
