On Cancer Survivors Day, Sonali Bendre and Tahira Kashyap recall their journey while battling the disease

Sonali was diagnosed with cancer in July 2018 and stayed in New York for a few months, where she received treatment.

Actor Sonali Bendre on Sunday recalled how her battle with cancer has made her strong. On the occasion of Cancer Survirors Day 2021, Sonali shared a few lessons she learnt during her battle with the deadly disease. 

Sonali posted a collage of her two pictures. The first image was taken when she was fighting the deadly disease and Sonali can be seen on lying on the bed with a shaved head. The second image was captured after she got recovered and the actress is beauty personified in it.

Along with the pictures, Sonali wrote, “How time flies... today when I look back, I see strength, I see weakness but most importantly I see the will to not let the C word define how my life will be after it... You create the life you choose. The journey is what you make of it... so remember to take #OneDayAtATime and to #SwitchOnTheSunshine #CancerSurvivorsDay.”

Reacting to the post, Sonali’s close friend and actor Hrithik Roshan’s former wife Sussanne Khan commented, "You are my warrior princess Sonzyy.” Hrithik also applauded Sonali for her bravery. 

Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap wrote, “You inspire me,” while Shilpa Shetty Kundra commented, “@iamsonalibendre #respect”.

Various celebrities including Sikander Kher, Zoya Akhtar, Manish Malhotra, Dia Mirza, Navya Naveli Nanda and Priyanka Chopra among others dropped heart and lovestruck emojis in the comment section.

Sonali was diagnosed with cancer in July 2018 and stayed in New York for a few months, where she received treatment. 

Tahira Kashyap Khurrana in 2018 shared that she was detected with Stage 0 breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy procedure. She shared a sketch of herself with a bare back, shaved head and a scar and wrote a powerful message.

Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you. Everyone has scars- whether you can see them or not. Wear yours with pride. #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay,” Tahira wrote.
