Mysore Lamps land to house government office

The state government has decided to build an office complex on the land belonging to the now defunct, state-owned Mysore Lamps Company for housing government offices presently functioning from private buildings, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa said.

Yeddyurappa, who chaired a meeting to review the progress of various developmental programmes on Tuesday, said orders would be issued soon in this regard. The proposed office complex would bring various government offices scattered in various parts of the city to one place making it more convenient for the people also.

Work on setting up a university in Davangere and a Music University in Mysore would start in the next couple of weeks. Already, special officers have been appointed for both varsities, Yeddyurappa said.

The chief minister will hold a meeting with state ministers in the union cabinet and state MPs in Delhi in August for early clearance of pending projects with the centre. All departments have been directed to prepare proposals to get funds from the centre under various schemes, he said.

The government has announced 65 new programmes in the state budget (2009-10). However, the government orders had been issued for only 32 programmes. The officials have been instructed to issue orders for the rest of the schemes soon.

He said it was not possible for the government to distribute rice and wheat at Rs3 a kg for all the below poverty line families. The centre allocates subsidised food grains to only 31 lakh families while the government has to supply subsidised food grains to over one crore BPL families, Yeddyurappa pointed out.
