On the lines of police and Road Transport Office (RTO), officers and staff of the Commissionerate of Geology and Mining (CGM) will also be seen donning the Khaki soon.

The National Institute of Design (NID), which was roped in for designing uniforms for the latter's field and lab officers, has completed its work, and the employees will get uniforms in a couple of months.

Officials said that the need to have proper uniforms for employees and officers of the Commissionerate arose keeping in mind their safety, health and wellbeing, especially in view of incidents of violence targeting field staffers during various operations. Last year, there were four incidents of attack on mining employees, and seven in the year before that.

"The khaki uniform would not only give a distinguished identity to our staff and officers, but we also expect that it will act as a shield by deterring violators from indulging in violence against them when they are on duty. Moreover, it will also bring in pride and sense of authority in our employees and officers," state's commissioner of geology and mining Roopwant Singh, told DNA.

The uniform is in khaki and broadly on the pattern followed by police, RTO, and excise personnel in Gujarat, supporting the identity and authority of Commissionerate of Geology and Mining.

Officials said that the uniforms will be provided to all categories of CGM employees and officers, including senior geologists, geologists, royalty officers, mine supervisors and flying squad. The uniforms will also bear various insignia for each rank of the staff and officers.

Singh said that the uniforms would be provided to the employees and officers from April after their training at Karai police academy. The uniform comprises khaki shirt, khaki trousers, headgear, belt, shoes, winter & rainwear, accessories, among others.

"The material used for the uniform takes into account the working conditions of the employees, repeated use, and ease of maintenance," officials said.
