Man seeks protection from Mehsana DySP Manjita Vanzara

A Mehsana resident has moved the Gujarat High Court seeking protection for himself from the district's Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjita Vanzara who allegedly threatened him of falsely implicating in a case if he did not make payments to a moneylender.

Ramsinh Desai, the petitioner, has submitted before the court that he had already made payments of amounts thrice the loan amount of Rs 4 lakh, but Vanzara and a constable working under her have been constantly threatening him to cough up more money. Desai has also submitted the transcripts of the telephonic conversations with Vanzara and call recordings to substantiate his claims.

When the matter was taken up by a single judge bench of Justice VM Pancholi on Thursday, it directed the counsel for the state government to take instructions in the matter. The court also posted the case for further hearing on March 5.

According to the case details, Desai had taken a loan of Rs 5 lakh from a moneylender through a friend. However, when he defaulted on payment, the moneylender sought the entire amount. Unable to do so, his friend made the entire payment, but only on the condition of Desai paying an interest of 5 per cent per month.

According to Desai, he had so far made payments of Rs 12 lakh, but suddenly, had started receiving threats from Vanzara to pay more and was also summoned to her office. Desai has levelled serious allegations against Vanzara for being hand-in-glove with moneylenders in an illegal money lending business.
