Traveling in compartment for physically challenged of Mumbai-Rajkot Saurashtra Janta Express was a nightmare for a physically challenged 21-years-old girl and her father. A group of drunk hooligans assaulted the girl's father when he objected to their entry in the special compartment. When the distressed daughter-father duo approached the railway police they too turned a deaf ear. The father has filed a complaint with the RPF head office at Mumbai Central station.

The victim identified as Milan Parmar (48) is a tailor residing at Girgaon.

Speaking with DNA, Milan Parmar said, “I was travelling with my wife Sangita (43) and daughter Mitali (21) on Sunday evening and we had gone for a darshan at the Chotila temple at Than in Rajkot district.”

“At 12.30 am when the train reached Vadodara Railway station a group of 5 youth aged 25-30 entered in the compartment. I requested and asked them to get out as this is a physically challenged compartment. They started hitting and abused me. I immediately called on 182 RPF helpline number to lodge a complaint,” added Parmar.

Following the complaint, the youth ran away into a local compartment. The constable meanwhile nabbed all the culprits at Anand station. However, he let them go off only with a warning. The father alleged that the RPF constable asked the father for his i-card and his daughter for her disability certificate.

Meanwhile, the Railway police is trying to play down the incident.

“We can't charge them as they entered the physically challenged compartment however they didn't travel. We have given a warning to the youth to not repeat this. We didn't get any complaint about the assault and abuse and hence we didn't take any action,” said Ramesh Parmar, Assistant Sub-Inspector from RPF in Vadodara.
