Heavy rains continued to lash south Gujarat with some places receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday. The four districts of Valsad, Narmada, Surat, Navsari and Dangs reported between 186 to 100 mm of rainfall on Saturday. The highest rainfall was recorded in Khergam taluka of Navsari district which saw 186 mm of rainfall from 6 am to 4 pm in the evening. The second highest rainfall was recorded in Waghai taluka of Dangs at 181 mm followed by Chikhli in Navsari that received 128 mm of rainfall.

The heavy rains led to flood like situation in some parts of South Gujarat forcing the district administration to keep NDRF teams on stand-by in South Gujarat, Central Gujarat and Saurashtra.

Meanwhile, Skymet in an article said that the rains in South Gujarat was a result of an active monsoon trough from South Gujarat to Karnataka coast. It warned that the trough will be active for the next 24 hours with several places including Surat, Valsad, Vadodara getting heavy rains in the next 48 hours.

As of now, 84 districts in the state have received rain so far. Interestingly, despite the heavy rains in South Gujarat it has so far received just 5.61% of its total average rainfall of 1418mm.

The met department in a statement said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers will continue in South Gujarat, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli. It has also predicted light thundershowers for the city. The city on Saturday recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degree celsius which is two degrees below normal.

The city has so far received 13.2% of its total average rainfall of 793mm. Several parts of the city received rains for a few minutes on Saturday too. Across the district Detroj taluka has received the highest rainfall this monsoon so far recording 114 mm of rainfall followed by Ahmedabad city which as got 104 mm of rainfall so far.

Overall the state has received 79.58mm of rainfall accounting for just 9.58 % of its annual average rainfall of 816 mm.
