Gujarat to follow Madhya Pradesh model to revive dying rivers

When the main source of water for Gujarat, Narmada is drying up, the state government has decided to follow the Madhya Pradesh Model of 'Mission Narmada' to revive the dying rivers in state. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani gave in a principal nod to the project been designed by rural development commissioner Mona Khandhar.

The government will revive rivers through tree plantation in the ravines of the rivers. Madhya Pradesh government under the leadership of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had initiated a same mission to conserve the Narmada.

Gujarat government informed through the press communique, "There is a planning of revival of 34 rivers in 31 districts of Gujarat. Different stretches of rivers of 188km will be revived through various techniques. The tree plantation will be pushed in the ravines of different rivers so that the pace of the current of the flowing water can be decreased and water flooding into the sea can be stopped."

"The state government is going to launch Sujalam Sufalam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan, a mission for water conservation across the state from May 01 for the whole month and CM Rupani has given stress over the activity of revival of rivers in Gujarat. This will also hold land erosion and would preserve moisture inland helping vegetation and groundwater recharge," the government said. The techniques like Nala bunding, check wall, gabion structure, galley plug and other will be used.

The state government will also take the help of rural people and can give work under MNREGA scheme for the labour work.
