The state on Monday recorded 91 cases of swine flu, the highest to be registered in a single day since the beginning of 2019. Of these, 66 cases were registered within various municipal corporation limits.

The Centre had sent two teams to Gujarat following the rise in swine flu cases and related deaths. The Union Health Ministry had sent a team comprising a microbiologist, an epidemiologist and a clinician. The team had visited the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad and taken stock of the situation in Vadodara, Bhavnagar and other major government hospitals.

Jayanti Ravi, health commissioner, said the teams were satisfied with the efforts put in by the state in the matter.

"We have organised a meeting on Tuesday between the central team and health officials across the state, Asha workers and doctors as well as private hospitals and practitioners who are dealing with the disease," said Ravi.

In an official statement, the state government said that at the meeting, experts from both the Centre and the state would provide further guidelines on swine flu and how to create awareness around it."

This year, so far, Gujarat ranks second in swine flu deaths in the country, and is also among the top three states besides Rajasthan and Delhi to record the highest number of cases.
